Who we are & definitions
“We,” “us,” “our” means NorthForge Tech, the publisher of Fitrah. We act as the data controller for personal data described in this policy. Routine privacy and data requests are handled at contact@northforgetech.io.
“You” means the person using Fitrah. “Service” means the Fitrah mobile application and its features as offered from time to time. Fitrah includes Islamic religious content and tools for personal use; this policy is not religious guidance and does not provide fatwa or legal advice.
What this covers
This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in connection with the Service. It does not govern the Apple App Store, Google Play, or payment processors you use to obtain or pay for the app; those providers have their own privacy notices and terms.
Fitrah may be downloaded and used in many countries (including the EU, UK, US, Middle East, and elsewhere). Your local laws may give you additional rights; where this policy and local law conflict, local law applies to the extent required.
Children & age
Fitrah is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you should review this policy with a parent or guardian. If you believe we have received information from a child under 13, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
What we collect & how we use it
Much of what you configure in Fitrah (for example calculation preferences, notification times, and similar choices) is stored on your device and is not sent to our servers unless this policy says otherwise.
Accounts
Fitrah is designed to work without a user login. We do not issue passwords or operate a traditional in-app user account for the core experience described here.
Device & app information
Through Firebase Analytics and similar tools, we may receive technical information such as app version, device type, operating system version, general region (for example country or locale), and coarse usage events. We use this to understand how the Service is used in aggregate and to improve stability and features.
Location
When you allow location access, we use your device’s location to help provide accurate prayer times and qibla direction. On iOS and Android, location is typically accessed while you are using the app or when the system allows short updates needed for those features. If you enable scheduled prayer reminders, your device’s operating system may wake the app or use approximate location so reminders stay accurate; we do not use your location for unrelated advertising or continuous background tracking for marketing.
You can use a manual city, region, or coordinates in Fitrah so prayer times and qibla work without sharing precise GPS, if you prefer.
Microphone & speech recognition
The microphone is used only if you choose optional voice input (for example in “Ask a Question”). Audio is processed for speech-to-text. Depending on your device and settings, recognition may run on your device and/or be processed by Apple or Google as part of the operating system or system speech services, under their respective terms and privacy policies. We do not retain voice recordings on our servers for this feature as part of the standard design described here.
Notifications
With your permission, Fitrah may send local or scheduled notifications (for example prayer reminders). Scheduling uses the prayer-time and notification settings you configure, which may be based on location or your manual location settings. You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
Firebase & Google services
We use Google Firebase and related Google services. These may process data on Google’s infrastructure:
- Firebase Analytics — aggregate and event-level analytics to understand feature use and improve the app.
- Firebase Remote Config — to adjust app behaviour, feature flags, or copy remotely without forcing every store update.
- Firebase AI (Gemini) — to generate responses for optional “Ask a Question” chat. Your prompts and model outputs may be transmitted to and processed on Google’s servers.
Google acts as a subprocessor when it processes personal data on our behalf. Google’s own retention and security practices apply to data held in their systems; we configure Firebase to collect only what we reasonably need for the Service. For more detail, see Google’s documentation for Firebase and Google Cloud.
Cloud Firestore
We use Google Cloud Firestore only for information you explicitly submit, such as optional feedback or support messages you send through the app. We do not store your full “Ask a Question” conversation history in Firestore as an ongoing archive; AI chat traffic is processed for the response and is subject to Google’s processing described above, not to a separate long-term chat log stored by us in Firestore.
“Ask a Question” (AI)
The optional AI feature provides general information and conversational assistance inside the app. It is not a substitute for qualified Islamic scholarship (fatwa), medical advice, legal advice, or professional counselling. Outputs may be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable; use your own judgment and consult qualified people when decisions matter.
If you are in immediate danger or a life-threatening emergency, contact your local emergency number (for example 112 or 999 in many regions, or 911 in the United States). In the US, if you are in emotional crisis, you can contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988). Use the equivalent service where you live if available.
Optional iOS home screen widget
If you add the Fitrah widget, limited information you choose to display (such as upcoming prayer times or related summaries) may appear on your home screen or lock screen, depending on your iOS settings. Widget content is generally easier for others to glimpse than content inside the locked app; avoid the widget on shared devices if that is a concern.
Legal bases (EU / UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, different processing activities may rely on different legal bases, such as: performance of a contract (providing the Service you request); legitimate interests (for example securing the app, understanding aggregate usage, and preventing abuse), balanced against your rights; and consent where required (for example where the platform or law requires consent for certain analytics or optional features). Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and in some cases data portability. Much of your Fitrah configuration lives on your device: deleting the app or clearing app data may erase it. For personal data we hold in our systems (for example optional feedback you sent), email contact@northforgetech.io and we will respond within a reasonable time and in line with applicable law (typically within one month for EU/UK requests, subject to extension where permitted).
If you are in the EU or UK, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. Indicative periods: optional feedback stored in Firestore is kept for up to twenty-four (24) months after submission unless we delete it earlier or you ask us to delete it sooner. Aggregated or de-identified analytics may be retained longer where it no longer identifies you.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
Our subprocessors (including Google and Apple) may process data in the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other countries where they operate. If personal data is transferred from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to countries that have not been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission (and, for UK transfers, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to those clauses where applicable), or other mechanisms recognised under applicable law. You may request more information about safeguards by emailing contact@northforgetech.io.
Purchases
Fitrah is currently offered without in-app purchases or subscriptions. If we introduce paid features later, payments will be processed by Apple and/or Google and we will update this policy and provide any additional terms required by the stores.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version at the official URL above and change the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will also use reasonable in-product notice where practical (for example an in-app message or release notes).
